Happy 6 years Anniversary to www.ooheliumoo.blogspot.com....... Woottt......

6 years ago, I promised myself that I have to do something to improve my English..... So that I can get a decent score for SAT.......

One of it was trying to pick up reading and the other is starting a blog so that I can improve my written English....... These two projects have since then transform into a kind of habitual behaviour........

My English is still atrocious but compared to 6 years ago...... I think I improve my proficiency of it by leaps and bounds........ So the fact that I can communicate to someone through English is by virtues of these two projects.......

So thank you blog for being such a faithful listener to all my woes and sharing in all my joys....... The 6 years had been a blast and Im sure we will continue to be happy together in future........

Still in the orientation phase...... Learning the ropes as I go along......
Im quite glad to be in this role and people have been telling me that my role is a good one......

Firstly, its a global role....... Im looking at problems and solutions on a global scale...... This magnitude allows me to learn alot more but of course at the tradeoff of understanding the day to day operations.......

Secondly, its the role of marketing and strategy....... Something which I like doing...... Even at a junior level, I am able to see how a mega corporation strategize...... Its quite cool..... Its like business case competition all over again.......

Thirdly, my senior is going on maternity leave pretty soon hence I get the chance of tackling pricing as well....... Its so real that its scary....... A few people can decide the fate of millions of dollars....... Because the team is a global one, the price impacts the whole world.......

All in all..... I believed I made a correct choice...... Even though its only my second week....... But I can safely affirm that......

I have completed "Lord Of The Flies"....... I dont quite like it even though its a classic...... I probably find it that way because I did not read hard enough to understand its essence...... Oh well, I might just try the book again some time later to try to appreciate it more........

6.5/10.......

Currently reading "Winning" by Jack Welch....... Its good and its informative...... Will practise some of the points raised in the book...... Will start "For One More Day" by Mitch Albom after "Winning".........

Cheerios peepz....... TGIF :)

This time its real...... No longer the student thats interning at some company...... Its real...... The real stuff starts now....... Scary shit......

Been reading alot from the forum regarding the "famous" 2007 SMU graduates survey.......
Its quite interesting to know how people think....... Some posts are really good while some are plain ignorant.......I have time on my hands hence going to write a little something on it as well......

Well, first off, I do not doubt the accuracy of the survey BUT I feel that the way the survey was conducted could be flawed.......
  • They are using average in the statistic....... Well, lets just include 10 x Ibankers and 10 x consultants in these statistic and its gonna skew skyhigh...... Well, alot of us know that consultants and Ibankers definitely commands such atronomical payscale(6k, 7k, 8k per month is common)...... Next arises the common myth that local students don't really stand a chance of getting hired by these firms....... Well, thats certainly false....... Seen a number of local graduates hired as consultants in firms such as BCG, Bain, McKinsey...... And a number of fresh graduates from local universities hired as Ibankers in banks like JP, ML, GS, MS etc etc...... And lets not forget about graduates that work overseas in London, New York, Hong Kong, Dubai etc etc....... :P

Median will be much more accurate in presenting the current jobmarket scene.......

  • I believe that not all the students are being invited to participate in the survey....... The sampling size might not be random afterall....... Even if its random, lets visit the mindset of a student that might not be having such an attractive salary package, is he/she more or less incline to fill up that survey....... My guess is the latter........ Again, skewing up the average......

Random sampling and compulsory participation might do the work..... Though I have no idea how to make it compulsory....... Revoke their chance of graduating if they do not fill up the survey accurately...... Or maybe reward by paying students a sum of 20 dollars for the survey?? Hahaha...... I certainly hope they implement the reward system.......

  • Being in SMU myself, I notice that many SMU students have a strong penchant for investment banks, consulting firms or big MNCs...... Even our accounting students try to avoid going into the Big 4, SIS students avoiding IT jobs....... And most landed up going for the above mentioned type of firms...... Well, we are a business school afterall...... So this trend again pushes up the average wage of a typical grad......

Benchmarking against NUS and NTU biz school will be good.......

  • In my impression, 2007 seems to be a great year for jobseekers....... Im lazy to research on facts to back this up...... But my gut feel is that its correct....... Explaining the high average once again........

So all in all, I believed that the survey is accurate........ So lets wait for the NUS and NTU survey results for benchmarking.......

Had great fun over the past few days......
Met up with Andy, Jeff, Ronald and Natasha for great and delicious ramen just beside Gallery Hotel...... Cheap and good..... Alvin, Stella and Raymond joined us after dinner for a poker session......

Great great fun...... Was down throughout the night till the very last hand when I win the pot with a pair...... Hahahha...... Quite incredible...... On a side note, Ronald can definitely mix a good concoction..... His flaming lamborghini is pretty good...... Hahaha......

After which, I camped at Alvin's place for 2 consecutive days for swimming, slacking and movie marathon...... Real real fun...... Had a blast over that 2 days...... Thanks to Alvin, Stella and Raymond for a highly entertaining "chalet"......

Starting work on Tuesday...... The initial date was 2nd of June but I guess the department needed me quite urgently hence it was push forward by 2 weeks which suits me just fine.......

Going to start in the Business to Business department dealing with Lubricants...... Gonna be involved in the strategy, pricing, marketing and sales of the product....... So its basically a vertical kinda role....... Feeling really excited and eager to learn and master this role......

New environment, new phase, new battlefield....... Im gonna have a ball of a time...... Woottt.....
Bring it on!!!

Watched yet another classic; "A Beautiful Mind".......
Based on the nobel prize winner, John Nash...... Brilliant acting by Russell Crowe to the making of such a beautiful show......

I totally loved the scene where the other professors offer their pen to Nash...... Something like offering a tribute to the tremendous work that someone had done...... To acknowledge that masterpiece sorta thing...... Its so blardy touching......

Go watch it!!!

Just watched an old classic; "Top Gun"....... LOL...... Yeahhh..... Its old school, I know...... But its really good...... Maverick and Ice Man hur hur...... I wanna watch all this good movies but sometimes its not possible to rent such classics anymore....... So its lucky that Im still able to get "Top Gun".......

Ive got 3 weeks to slack before working...... And Im already feeling quite restless...... I think I lack the ability to rot for too long....... But I know that once I start working, I will die for just to get time off...... Oh well..... Im a slut..... I know it......

I heard something and somehow it affected me alittle....... I cant really explain but I always have a defensive feeling about the things around me....... Normally, people wont have any reaction to such a thing, but it sure rattle my mind quite abit...... Defense mechanisms acting up I suppose...... Oh well, I gotta be more open about such things and be more mature.......

Its been awhile since I update about my reading...... Well, thats because I haven been doing any reading...... Im stuck with "Lord Of The Flies" for centuries....... Somehow I just cannot finish that book...... Its not that its bad or anything..... But somehow I cannot finish it...... Bahhh......

I have "Winning" by Jack Welch, "The Undercover Economist", "For One More Day" by Mitch Albom waiting for me...... And yet, my reading just slumped to a standstill...... Bahhh......

Oh well..... Meeting Serene later for a drink...... Think its a cheering-her-up meeting....... Hahaha...... But oh well, thats what I do best sometimes...... Meeting Sue Ann on Wednesday if the both of us doesnt pull a fast one on each other.......

I hope I get the Xbox 360 from Andy soon enough...... I can see my flesh rotting with every minute of not doing anything....... Ok, I think Im writing too many random stuff...... So thats all folks....... Cheerios.......

Ask me out if you wanna kill time...... Lets be time hunters together....... :P
